Clinical VR Therapy For Aged Care and Dementia
Non-pharmacological therapy programs delivered through virtual reality, supporting lifestyle pain management in clinical care, dementia care, and palliative support.
Created with industry leading professionals and used in everyday activities across Australia and New Zealand.
Built on Established Therapy Techniques
Reminiscence Therapy
Uses past experiences, places, sounds and events to support memory recall, identity and emotional wellbeing. One of the most widely studied non-pharmacological approaches in dementia care.
Multisensory Stimulation
Engages sight, sound, touch and smell to support calm and reduce distress, drawing on the principles of sensory modulation used in dementia care.
Movement & Physical Therapy
Pairs visual engagement with physical activity to improve participation and reduce resistance to movement, supporting fall prevention and functional independence.
De-escalation & Emotional Regulation
A non-pharmacological, first-line approach to agitation, anxiety and distress, recommended ahead of medication.
Dementia Care and Memory Support
Reduce agitation and improve quality of life for people living with dementia.
When a person living with dementia becomes agitated, they are not angry by nature. They just have unmet needs. It’s not random. It’s a message.
The farmer is telling you the cows need milking. The mother is telling you her kids are due home from school. The mechanic is telling you it’s time to lock up the workshop.
Person-centred dementia care starts from a simple idea. Take a step away from the disease. The person is still there, the history is still there, and the identity is still there, with a lifetime of routines, roles, and identity. NeuronsVR supports a resident’s identity and gives them what they are actually asking for, taking them back to the place their mind is already trying to reach, fulfilling their unmet need.
True Care Isn't Masking Behaviours With Psychotropics.
True Care is Fulfilling Unmet Needs.
—— Results Following NeuronsVR Therapy
What Happens After the Headset Comes Off
The true outcome of a NeuronsVR therapy session happens after it ends. The changed cognitive state returns the resident to a familiar meaningful environment. Care teams consistently observe the following:
Calm
The resident grounds back into the room, noticeably settled. Heart rate typically drops by 8 to 10 beats per minute during a session, and the physical stillness is visible to everyone in the room.
Memory
Then comes the "I remember" moment. Prompted by where they've just been, residents begin telling stories of their youth, and often stories their care team has never heard before.
Connection
Finally, a release: laughter, or happy tears. A moment of connection to identity that no activity sheet reaches.
That change of cognitive state can last for two to three hours. Consistent interventions at the same time every day increase the window of the changed cognitive state. Settle the resident whose 3:30 p.m. agitation would trigger the whole wing. You haven’t just calmed one person. You’ve broken the repetitive cycle of agitation and stopped the domino effect for the whole unit.
Chat to NeuronsVR about trialling this with the resident your team finds hardest to reach.
Pain Management
Support Pain Management Without Increasing Medication
For residents dealing with chronic or procedural pain, NeuronsVR provides a non-pharmacological option that works alongside existing care plans. It is not a replacement, but a clinically supported addition.
Programs use specific visual and auditory stimuli to block pain receptors, supporting comfort, reducing pain, anxiety, and helping residents stay calm during procedures that may have been previously distressing. This allows the care staff to administer the care they need to in a more efficient and effective way, giving them more time to spend socially engaging with the residents.
Common Applications
- Chronic wound-related pain and dressing changes
- Musculoskeletal and neuropathic pain
- Pain-related anxiety
- Pain management for people living with dementia

Palliative & End-of-Life Care
Comfort, Dignity, and Connection at End of Life
Pain and restlessness at end of life often have causes beyond the physical: unfinished matters, things left unsaid, a lost sense of self, homesickness, or wishes that were never fulfilled.
NeuronsVR’s palliative programs help ease this distress by redirecting attention away from pain and taking residents back to the places that matter to them. Sessions can also be shared with family and staff, which changes what a moment at end of life looks like. Instead of sitting in silence, they are somewhere together.
Programs are therapeutic, non-stimulating, and selected to match each resident’s life history, cultural background, and personal experiences. They run offline, in the resident’s own room, in under a minute of setup.
—— More Than a Headset
Ready to Run Programs That Can Be Directly Imported Into Your Lifestyle Calendar.
NeuronsVR isn’t a device your team has to build activities around. The activities come with it. Every subscription includes a growing resource library of, session plans, printable materials, menu options, multi-sensory and extra sensory tools, designed based on the best lifestyle programs from facilities around the world.
Armchair Travel
A fully themed program day all from a drop-in NeuronsVR lifestyle program. Residents check in with printed passports and boarding passes. Aeroplane-window posters go up on the activity room walls, the tea trolley becomes the hostess cart, and the group flies to Rome. Then the kitchen serves pizza for lunch. Next week it's Japan, and sushi. A full themed program day, from a template your team prints.
Fish & Chip Fridays
Feet in a warm bowl of water beside a tray of sand and seashells. The sound of waves. A dab of coconut sunscreen. Then the headsets go on and the room is at the beach. Sight, sound, touch, smell and, when lunch arrives, taste. All five senses, delivered in one session plan.
Movement Therapy That Doesn't Feel Like Exercise
Simple physio pedals turn a mountain tour into ten minutes of cycling that residents ask to do again. Movement programs pair visual engagement with gentle physical activity, so residents participate longer, and willingly.
The NeuronsVR library has endless programs, enough to match every resident’s story, and structured enough that your team can actually weave it into care plans. New programs are released monthly, along with printables, menu recommendations and tips for integrating it into your daily activity programs.
